Wise Guy Assassin
I've always loved mafia films and games set in the 1930s and 40s and for a while I've had a game concept in mind where you play as a mafia assassin; old school sniper rifles, Tommy guns, 1911s, etc... . This art test felt like the perfect opportunity to explore that a bit.
I like the low-fidelity indie art style you have in mind; with basically every game going for expensive boring realism, I love the idea of going in the complete opposite direction. Rather than simply sending more of my portfolio, I wanted to explore the art style.
I spent around three days on this character; modeled, rigged and posed in Maya (and some Mudbox). Any resemblance to Codename 47 is entirely accidental: I kinda made him into a self-portrait and I happen to be bald as well, minus the barcode ;)
I didn't use any textures, everything is vertex colors. I used roughly 18K polygons, excluding the rifle and rendered him in Unreal Engine, with which I'm a bit more comfortable, even though I spent all of last year working in Unity.
My main inspiration for this project is games like Team Fortress 2 and a little known but really cool comic book called Soda by Tome and Gazzotti. Exaggerated proportions, that low poly look infused by this really cool old school cops and robbers vibe.
For your consideration: Wise Guy Assassin.
